The world’s largest newborn genaetic screening programs has been lunched

News from the UAE, one of the most dynamically developing countries in the field of medicine.

In Abu Dhabi, one of the world’s largest newborn genetic screening programs has been launched. Babies will now be tested for more than 800 hereditary diseases, including metabolic disorders and rare genetic conditions such as spinal muscular atrophy.

The screening uses whole-genome sequencing, which makes it possible to detect over 815 treatable conditions at the earliest stages.

Early detection means timely — and even life-saving — interventions, personalized treatment, and a contribution to the health of future generations.

The program is already available in several Abu Dhabi hospitals and will gradually be expanded.
